About Taylor Creek Outfitters

Taylor Creek Outfitters was officially established in the fall of 2017. The property and camp have been part of the family since 2002. Your black bear hunting guide, Jamie Ridl, has successfully guided bear hunts for friends and family in various areas of Baraga County in Upper MIchigan for the past 16 years with over a 90% harvest rate.

Located 7 miles south of L’Anse, MI, Taylor Creek Outfitters sits on 102 acres of prime bear/deer habitat. The property is surrounded by 1000 plus acres of CFR land and over 300 acres of state land which provides us a huge area to scout, bait, and draw bears.

Our season starts in early June with scouting and trail cam placement in areas where we usually see bear activity. Stand and blind placement occur around August 10. This gives the animals time to get adjusted and use to the presence of the blinds/stands prior to us hunting out of them.

Our Blinds and Tree stands are top brand name equipment such as API, Millennium, Primos, and Ameritech. Trail camera pictures will be used to access the quality of bear(s) that are hitting each particular bait station. These photos are emailed to clients to help hunters get an idea of the quality of bear(s) that are hitting the bait and we have also found this helpful to get clients excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.

We pride ourselves in making sure every detail of your hunt is thought of and checked prior to your arrival so that all you have to do is show up, relax, and enjoy your hunt.

Meet your bear hunting guide - Jamie Ridl

I am both guide and owner of Taylor Creek Outfitters. It is truly my pleasure and honor to have the opportunity to guide you on a Bear hunt here in Northern Michigan.

Originally from North Dakota, I have been a hunter most of my life. Over the past ten years, I have hunted most of the Midwest, Whyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Ohio, Missouri, and of course Michigan. In 1997 I moved to the Upper Peninsula of Northern Michigan where I now call home. I purchased the property of which is now Taylor Creek Outfitter in 2002 and have been hunting and guiding here with friends and family ever since.

It wasn’t until recently that my family and friends encouraged me to start up an Outfitter Business here in the U.P. I started in 2017 taking on only a couple customers and found that I truly enjoyed the camaraderie that I developed with my guests and the ever lasting friendships that are built. In another words, I guess you could say that I really loved my job. So, although Taylor Creek Outfitters is a relatively new adventure for me, guiding bears is not.

I have been successfully guiding bears for friends and family on my property and surrounding area for the past 16 years. 100% of my clients have had an opportunity at a bear, while over 90% have harvested a bear. My goal is to make sure you are successful. Let’s face it, if you’re not successful, how can we be? It’s a two way street. That is why I go through every detail to make sure your hunt is the hunt of a lifetime. Your success is our success!

My goal is to put you on a bear, after that it is up to you. I encourage all hunters to practice prior to arriving for your hunt. We all hate to see animals wounded and not recovered, it is unfortunately part of hunting. Although, this happens from time to time, I have found that the best way to avoid this is to make sure you are well prepared and have practiced/sighted in your weapon of choice as well as researched proper shot placement on a bear. We will review this upon your arrival and before your hunt.

We have targets for both firearms and archery where we can make sure your weapon is on prior to entering the woods. Should you have any questions, I encourage you to reach out and discuss with me at any time. Thank you for considering Taylor Creek Outfitters for your guiding service. We look forward to hunting with you!
